After you get this version of Ghostscript, we suggest that you track news, updates, and fixes on SourceForge. Please visit http://sourceforge.net/projects/ghostscript/.
You can also participate in the discussion at the Ghostscript community website, www.ghostscript.com.
The primary site for the Ghostscript source code is http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ghostscript/. The primary FTP site for the full Ghostscript release is ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/ghost/. Ghostscript is also available from many mirror sites which may be closer to you and provide faster access. Ghostscript is also available on CD-R.
It is also worthwhile having the GV, GSview, ggv or kghostview previewer.
A precompiled version for /usr/local is available as ghostscript-8.00.i386.tar.gz, built on RedHat Linux 8.0. Please note that this was built with a limited set of printer drivers. If you need extra printer drivers, you will need to recompile Ghostscript.
You will need to obtain and run the self-extracting EXE
gs800w32.exe, AFPL Ghostscript 8.00 for Win32 5766144 bytesYou can unzip this if you want to check the contents.
It is recommended that you also install GSview, a graphical interface to Ghostscript.
gsv44w32.exe, GSview 4.4 for Win32 1570816 bytes
You will need to obtain the following ZIP files:
MS-DOS is no longer supported by AFPL Ghostscript. See Aladdin Ghostscript 5.10 for a 32-bit DOS EXE. Alternatively, the Win32 package above includes gswin32c.exe, a Win32 command line version of Ghostscript.
The source packages listed above work fine on AIX. Binaries are also available here for a variety of AIX versions.
If using OS/2 or MS-Windows it is strongly recommended that you also get GSview, which provides a graphical interface to Ghostscript. |
To unpack ZIP files, you will need an unzip program such as Info-ZIP unzip.
AFPL Ghostscript 8.00 is available precompiled for the Mac at the mirror sites listed above.
This is simply an update of the Ghostscript engine; you'll still need to use it with a viewer application like MacGSView. Simply replace the various pieces with the updated versions from the macgs-800-shlib folder. For MacGSView 2.0beta4, the important pieces are the 'GhostscriptLib PPC' file in the Extensions Folder, and the 'lib' directory in Application Support:Ghostscript inside the system folder.
To compile MacOS shared component from source, you just need the macgs-800-src.sit archive available from the same locations, and Metrowerks Codewarrior v6 (or above). This archive contains all the third party libraries required to build Ghostscript, but not the source to the viewer application or the standard fontset (see above) required for text rendering.
