Solid State Physics Textbooks
Harold T. Stokes, Solid State Physics (Creative Works, BYU, Provo, Utah, 2000), ISBN 0-8425-2489-4
I wrote this book for the course, Principles of Solid State Physics,
developed at Brigham Young University. The course was specifically intended
for non-physics majors. The prerequisites are two semesters of introductory
physics that cover mechanics and electric and magnetic fields. A course
in modern physics is not a prerequisite. Thus, many topics of modern physics,
such as quantum mechanics, are included in this course to the extent that
they are needed to understand the aspects of solid state physics covered.
Solid State Physics was published by Allyn and Bacon in
1987. A few years later, Prentice Hall acquired Allyn and Bacon. In 1992
they decided to discontinue my book and transferred the copyright to me.
In 2000, I contracted with Creative Works at BYU to print my book.
Harold T. Stokes, Solid State Physics for Advanced Undergraduate Students (Creative Works, BYU, Provo, Utah, 2000), ISBN
0-8425-2490-8
I wrote this book for an advanced undergraduate course in solid
state physics. I included in this book most of the material in
Solid State Physics plus some additional more advanced
material.
