This applet demonstrates how an incident X-ray beam intensity is reduced in various directions when hitting a spherically shaped crystal sample.
m = linear absorption coefficient [1/mm]
R = radius of the sphere [mm]
The red lines indicate which fraction of the
incident intensity is actually observable after passing the
crystal.
With the scrollbar you may change the value of the product m*R
within the range 0-2.5.
You may give some example value for the linear absorbtion coefficient in order to see which radius for the sphere would result.
