One of the 14 Bravais lattices can be specified, e.g. lattice P hexagonal or lattice F cubic. Non-existing Bravais combinations like lattice F triclinic can also be used in order to try to refine the cell parameters in a triclinic setting before transforming them to a higher symmetry lattice. By running INDXPAT, the cell parameters are adjusted to fulfill the symmetry relations corresponding to the specified Bravais lattice. In order to adjust the cell parameters gradually, the option step n can be used, where n is the number of steps in which the cell parameters are adjusted. After each step the pattern is reindexed and the parameters that were selected by FIT are refined. This option is useful to force a lattice to a higher symmetry without losing the correct indexing.
