Mondo took three years to write, including one year of full-time development. If you are interested in obtaining lifetime 1-to-1 technical support from the author, I would be glad to oblige. I ask for very little in return:- Single user - $30 per PC 10+ users - $10 per PC Corporations - please contact me Compare that to the cost of BRU, ArcServe, Arkeia or BackupEdge. Bear in mind that Mondo comes with source code and a free mailing list for all users. If you are unable or unwilling to support the project financially, please consider supporting it in one or more of the following ways:-
Most users should stick with the stable branch. If you have trouble with the final package then please try the snapshot before reporting a bug. If you are feeling adventurous then please try the unstable branch. The generic packages were built on a Red Hat 7.3 system. If you have problems with them and if there are no packages for your Linux distribution then try other packages. Some of the latest Linux distributions contain severely flawed glibc binaries and libraries. The default Mandrake 9.0, SuSE 8.0, SuSE 8.1 distributions contain buggy glibc packages. If you find that Mondo does not function properly on your computer and you are running on of these distributions, especially if the errors involve tape handling or pthreads or "bzip2 being an ass" (trust me, you'll know what I mean if it happens to you) then please file a bug report against your glibc/pthreads library with the vendor of your Linux distribution. Until the vendors fix the bugs, there is nothing I can do. If you are a SuSE user, thank Mike for his excellent website. He talks you through the process of installing and running Mondo on your SuSE system.
[Mandrake Linux 8.2] [Mandrake Linux 9.0] [Red Hat Linux 8.0] [Red Hat Linux 7.3]
NB: ArkLinux 7.77 is not a formal distribution; rather, it is ArkLinux 1.0 with Red Hat 7.3's compiler. It is for developers only. If your Red Hat, Mandrake or other RPM-based distribution lacks certain crucial packages, the Mondo RPM will not install. Alternatively, if you are installing from tarballs, the code will not compile or function properly unless you have the necessary tools. The packages most often missing are:-
See the Documentation page if you have problems running or installing Mondo or Mindi. If you're interested in the script which put each distro in its own directory, please click here to download it. |
